The CHOP Microbiome Center was established in 2015 within the PennCHOP Microbiome Program to meet the growing needs of the Penn and CHOP communities in the field of microbiome research. The Program’s mission is to develop microbiome-based strategies that generate biomarkers or therapeutics to improve health and treat disease.

The CHOP Microbiome Center is comprised of a Sequencing Core and an Analytical Core. Together we support all aspects of microbiome sequencing projects including study planning and design, sample processing, DNA purification, library preparation, high-throughput sequencing, and bioinformatic and statistical analysis.

The Center leverages the multi-omics platforms already in place at CHOP, allowing the combination of very large-scale microbiome data with detailed patient records, deep genetic data, and additional omics-type data. Microbiome research is highly specialized and rapidly evolving. We stay abreast of the latest technologies and provide high quality resources and cutting-edge protocols to meet investigators' research needs.

The sequencing and analytical resources of the CHOP Microbiome Center are available to investigators in the Penn and CHOP communities, investigators from other academic institutions, and commercial entities. We provide standard fee-for-service and collaborative research arrangements with customers.
